Washington County Divorce Records
Divorce actions brought to the Washington County judicial system are heard in the District Court's Family Division. Couples file these actions to legally end their marriages and assign rights and responsibilities according to the law. The "divorce records" are the file proceeds of these cases, encompassing all information and documents submitted, collated, or generated during the proceedings. The Court Administrator of the Washington County District Court is the designated legal custodian of the judiciary's divorce-related records.
Under the MN Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch, divorce court records (pleadings, decrees, motions) can be read or copied by members of the public, except for records exempted by law, court order, or judicial rule. For example, financial disclosures and mediation reports are entirely confidential.
